A very good resource from Above the Law, getting commentors from similarly ranked schools to chime in about pluses and minuses. Law students getting ready to make decisions about where they’re headed next year should watch this series.
New Google feature allows you to build a profile that appears on a Google search that matches you name. At the bottom though, not at the top. Even so, I don’t think I need to stress that law students should build one of these before starting their job search.
An impassioned take on how poorly law school prepares you to be a lawyer. Some great points in here that I agree with wholeheartedly. As an indictment of law school in general though, I’m not as much of a fan. I believe in the “law school as graduate school” mentality, so I don’t believe these shortcomings mean law school is as fundamentally broken as the author does (group blog, I can’t tell which one wrote it).
Concerning episode in Florida where FSU’s bar passage rates for the February 2009 exam took a nosedive and ended up 6th of the 10 Florida law schools and below the state average. Whatever the cause, it appears FSU’s administration is taking it very seriously.
Fantastic idea of working out a moderate period before an exam. If you suffer from exam anxiety, it’s certainly worth a look. I would get off the treadmill though; go for a run in the world and let your mind wander a bit before you have to focus it on one thing for 3-48 hours. I always did the opposite though: I used the two hours before an exam to bottle up as much energy and motivation as possible.
A wonderful description of the NY State Bar swearing in process. I agree, who is buying a bunch of “Letters of Good Standing”? Is someone applying to every other bar in the country (that’s what you would use those for, right?)?
